Hanne Appelqvist to lead the Helsinki Collegium for Advanced Studies

The Helsinki Collegium for Advanced Studies is happy to announce that Hanne Appelqvist has been appointed as the new Director of the institute. Her five-year term as Director begins in January 2024. She has served as interim Director since August 2023 and, before that, as the Deputy Director since 2019. 

Hanne Appelqvist received her doctoral degree in philosophy from Columbia University in 2007. She has published a number of articles on the affinities between Ludwig Wittgenstein and Immanuel Kant as well as on philosophical aesthetics. She is the author of Wittgenstein and the Conditions of Musical Communication (2008), Wittgenstein and Aesthetics (CUP 2023), and editor of Wittgenstein and the Limits of Language (Routledge 2020). She is the Editor-in-Chief of Estetika: The European Journal of Aesthetics and the Chair of the Nordic Wittgenstein Society.
