Call for Papers: The Diverse Academy

The 2025 Erkko Conference "The Diverse Academy" will be held at the Helsinki Collegium for Advanced Studies on 12–13 June. The Call for Papers is open until 14 March, 2025.

This conference will explore issues relating to diversity within academia. We welcome papers on that broad topic, from a theoretical or practical perspective (or both), that relate to a specific discipline or disciplines, or to some specific area of concern (such as recruitment, staff or student evaluation, pedagogy, research methods), or to academia as a whole. We welcome papers from academics at all career stages, but also from people in non-academic positions in (e.g.) universities or funding bodies who have an interest in diversity issues.

The conference will be hybrid, but if you would like to attend in person, we may be able to subsidise travel within Europe and/or accommodation; and we will pay for your refreshments. There is no conference fee.

Please send an abstract of no more than 500 words, suitable for anonymous review, to diverse-academy@helsinki.fi by 14 March. (We expect the talks themselves to last about half an hour.) Please say in your email whether you would prefer to present in person or on Zoom, and if in person how much subsidy you would require in order to attend. Whether or not you request a subsidy — or how much — will not affect whether you are invited to present, but it may affect whether you will be able to present in person, depending on what we can afford. We aim to select the papers by the beginning of April.
