Book synopsis

"Biopower in Putin’s Russia: From Taking Care to Taking Lives" offers a novel interpretation of Putin’s regime in Russia using the Foucauldian concept of biopower. It analyzes how, over the past two decades, the state assumed control over the collective body through demographic and family polices, discriminatory laws on LGBT, juvenile justice, food sanctions, etc., just to dispose of these bodies in the war against Ukraine. It shows how biopolitics, the management of life, has transformed into necropolitics, the culture of death.
