Thu-Fri 16.–17.5.2019: Intensive preparation period for the participants – introductions to material, forming of research questions and work plans (from morning until night)
Sat-Sun 18.–19.5.2019: Free weekend in Helsinki
Mon-Fri 20.5.–24.5.2019: Intensive hackathon period (daily from morning until night, social programme included)
Fri 24.5.2019 at 13:00–17:15: Public presentations of the projects
The hackathon is aimed mainly for MA students and beyond. As a course in Helsinki, it is part of the 30 credit digital humanities module (see here), and data science master's programme (see here). While there are no formal prerequisites to attend, priority may be given to people with skills most deemed necessary by the organisers and team leaders.

We are prepared to sponsor approximately 20 participants outside Helsinki, Finland with travel (inside Europe) and accommodation. The travel costs will be reimbursed based on the cheapest alternative. You can apply for the sponsorship by filling out the Hackathon registration form – please provide an estimate of the travel costs in the form. Please do not make any bookings before you have been informed whether your sponsorship application is approved (9.4.2019). Note also that we anticipate that there will be more applications than what we can grant sponsorships for.
The sponsored accommodation will be located in the prize-winning and much appreciated Eurohostel near city centre by the sea. Accommodation will be in 2 person standard rooms (shared toilet and bathroom). More information about Eurohostel: https://eurohostel.eu/location.
3–5 ECTS credits may be gained from participating in the hackathon for students in participating universities. Assessment: pass/fail, based on participation in the group work, presentation, and an individual report.

Students from other universities will need to make their own arrangements, but may solicit support from the organisers in doing so.
Q: Who is eligible for applying for the hackathon?
A: All MA level students and beyond, from anywhere can register their interest in DHH19 during the application period (–2.4.2019.) by filling the application form. We might ask you for further information that is needed in the selection procedure.
Q: How the selection procedure of the participants will be done and by whom?
A: The applications received during the application period will be evaluated by the general DHH organizers and team leaders. Priority may be given to people with skills most deemed necessary – we aim for a balanced mix of students in computer science, humanities, and social sciences.
Q: Can I join the hackathon with my own funding?
A: Yes, you are most welcome! The hackathon will have space for approximately 40 participants, of which we are prepared to sponsor approximately 20 participants.
