ACTION AND INTERACTION AT THE FACULTY OF SOCIAL SCIENCES
The Faculty of Social Sciences is a social force with a global and multidisciplinary approach.
We educate experts for the private and public sectors as well as numerous third-sector organisations. Faculty alumni work as journalists, entrepreneurs and managers in public administration and the corporate world, and hold high-profile political positions.
The Faculty engages in a wide range of research collaboration with parties outside the University, including government ministries and research institutes, labour market organisations, insurance companies, local government, international organisations, the European Commission and companies from different fields. The Faculty issues statements in conjunction with the drafting of legislation and provides expert advice to Parliamentary committees, and Faculty researchers also contribute to public discussion.
Other universities and institutions of higher education play a key part in the Faculty’s collaborative networks. For example, the Faculty has long collaborated in economics teaching and research with Aalto University, the Hanken School of Economics and the Government Institute for Economic Research. The Bank of Finland and Statistics Finland are other important partners in research. Moreover, the Faculty promotes urban studies with the City of Helsinki and develops social work with health care providers in the Helsinki Metropolitan Area.
