Educational sciences at the University of Helsinki rise to 38th in the THE ranking

Educational sciences at the University of Helsinki reached the 38th position in the 2021 Times Higher Education (THE) subject ranking.

This means that educational sciences continued their progress from 2020 when they climbed eight places from 2019, to the 52nd position. This time, the ranking was 38, up 14 places. The highest THE ranking achieved so far was in 2017 when the University’s educational sciences reached 35th place.

Educational sciences currently rank in the top 50 in two academic rankings (QS and THE). Educational sciences at the University of Helsinki are in the top 10 among European universities and in the top five among non-English language universities, while having also secured the top spot among Nordic universities.

Johanna Mäkelä, dean of the Faculty of Educational Sciences, is pleased with the latest news:

“I’m delighted that our ranking increased so much and, especially, that our performance in the subject ranking improved for the second time in a row. I’m proud that our Faculty’s researchers and teachers have been able to focus on their core duties even in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic.”
