Wednesday 17.5., at 14:00–16:00 (Finland / EEST / UTC+03:00), second online pre-session: Intensive preparation period for the participants – introductions to material, forming of research questions and work plans
Week 1, Wednesday–Friday (24.–26.5.): Intensive hackathon period (daily from morning until night)
Week 1, Saturday–Sunday (27.–28.5.): Free weekend
Week 2, Monday–Friday (29.5.–2.6.): Intensive hackathon period (daily from morning until night)
Week 2, Friday (2.6.), at 12:30–15:30: Public presentations of the projects
The hackathon is aimed mainly at master's students and beyond. As a course in Helsinki, it is part of the digital humanities master’s track, 15/30 credit digital humanities modules (see here), and data science master's programme (see here). While there are no formal prerequisites to attend, priority may be given to people with skills most deemed necessary by the organisers and team leaders.

Thanks to funding received from CLARIN, DARIAH, and Helsinki Institute for Information Technology, we are prepared to sponsor a dozen or more participants outside Helsinki, Finland with travel (inside Europe) and accommodation. The travel costs will be reimbursed based on the cheapest alternative. You can apply for the sponsorship by filling out the Hackathon registration form – please provide an estimate of the travel costs in the form. Please do not make any bookings before you have been informed about whether your sponsorship application is approved. Note also that we anticipate that there will be more applications than what we can grant sponsorships for.
5 ECTS credits may be gained from participating in the hackathon for students in participating universities. Assessment: pass/fail, based on participation in the group work, presentation, and an individual report / additional agreed-upon work commensurate with the number of credits requested.

Q: Who is eligible for applying for the hackathon?
A: All master's level students and beyond, from anywhere can register their interest in DHH23 during the application period (14.3.–12.4.2023) by filling out the application form.
Q: How will the selection procedure of the participants be done and by whom?
A: The applications received during the application period will be evaluated by the general DHH organisers and team leaders. Priority may be given to people with skills most deemed necessary – we aim for a balanced mix of students in computer science, humanities, and social sciences.
Q: Can I join the hackathon with my own funding?
A: Yes, you are most welcome! The hackathon will have space for approximately 40 participants, of which we are prepared to sponsor a dozen or more participants.
