After having completed International Business Law (IBL) programme you will be awarded a Master of International and Comparative Law (MICL) degree title (kansainvälisen ja vertailevan oikeustieteen maisteri) which provides you a general eligibility for doctoral studies.
Completion of this degree does not qualify graduates for positions which require specifically a Finnish Master of Laws degree (oikeustieteen maisteri, OTM).
Upon graduation, you will be an internationally oriented business law professional who is well-qualified for careers in legal practice (such as law firms and corporate legal departments) as well as legal academia. You will have diverse career opportunities both in Finland and abroad.
In general, the employment situation for lawyers – especially in the field of business law – is very good. In Finland, for example, law firms have started to recruit students who have completed the MDP in International Business Law.
Although it is easy for international students to get by with English in the Helsinki region, learning Finnish will significantly improve your career options after graduation.
The University of Helsinki offers free Finnish language courses for enrolled international degree students. The beginners and intermediate level courses are not only a way to learn the language, but you also learn more about Finnish culture and get to network with other international students across the fields.
Information about the Finnish courses for international students in the Instructions for students.
