Research in Green Business

Green Business students will spend their first year at the University of British Columbia and their second year at the University of Helsinki. Both universities are ranked among the top in their respective countries. University-level teaching is based on the latest research-based knowledge.

Key research areas in green business include:

  • Development of bioproducts for a sustainable future
  • Solutions to future challenges in green energy production
  • Technologies and processes involved in bringing bioproducts to market
  • Utilization of natural resources for energy, bioplastics, construction, textiles, biomedical products, and daily consumables production
  • Adapting to global population growth with sustainable energy solutions
  • Responsible management of natural resources on a large scale
Research at the University of Helsinki

The University of Helsinki is globally recognized for its research strengths in ecologically, economically, and socially sustainable forest use, climate change interactions, and socio-economic impacts on the global forest sector. Research facilities at the Viikki Campus and Hyytiälä Forestry Field Station provide unique opportunities for hands-on research in forest and natural resource management, positioning students at the forefront of innovative bioeconomic development.

Research-based education

Teaching at the University of Helsinki is based on research and provided by researchers well-versed in their discipline, teaching the topics of their research.

In addition to relevant research-based knowledge, university education utilises diverse teaching and assessment methods promoting students’ learning, the development of scholarly thinking and the establishment of expertise.

From the beginning of their studies, students are part of the academic community. They get to familiarise themselves with the latest research. In many fields, students have the opportunity to complete their thesis in collaboration with research groups.

Get to know the programme

A dual master’s programme allows a student to earn two distinct degrees in a shorter amount of time than it would take to complete them separately. When graduated, students will be granted a Master of Science in Agriculture and Forestry (MSc. AF) degree from UH and a Master of Forestry (MF) degree from UBC. Obtaining both these degrees would normally take 3 years to complete separately, however when completed through the Green Business program, the dual degree is attainable in just two years.
