On the 8th of October 2024, a group of European and Nordic Studies (ENS) students visited the Finnish Institute of International Affairs (FIIA), an important hub for research and analysis on global political issues in the Nordics and in Europe. This visit provided students with an opportunity to engage with experts on pressing international matters and gain insight into the role of research institutions in shaping public policy.
During the visit, students had the chance to learn about FIIA’s work on topics such as European security, global governance, and Nordic foreign policy. FIIA researchers Tuomas Iso-Markku and Manuel Müller shared their knowledge on the geopolitical landscape, offering students valuable perspectives that complemented their studies in the ENS program, particularly within courses such as Current Research on Europe and Norden. The visit was a part of the ENS program’s ongoing efforts to connect students with professionals and institutions that contribute to the study and understanding of Nordic and European issues.
The students found the experience insightful and thought-provoking, deepening their understanding of the complex dynamics of international relations and the role of Finland in global affairs. This visit aligns with the ENS program’s goal of providing students with practical experiences and connections to key research institutions. It also enhances their academic journey by integrating real-world perspectives into their studies.
