Understanding Quantum and Relativistic Phenomena is an interactive meeting where ideas about quantum mechanics, general relativity and cosmology are shared, and a lot of time will be left to discussions. In particular, we will focus upon the approaches of (1917-1992) and (1935-2025), which include the , and the , as well as upon the by . Other approaches include , and .
The workshop honors the intellectual legacy of Bohm and Hiley. Both physicists, who worked in London at Birkbeck College and later at , championed the importance of exploring novel and unorthodox perspectives in physics in an open-minded way. Their work reminds us that scientific progress often thrives when we listen to divergent viewpoints in a spirit of , where a primary aim is first to understand what they mean, before moving on to a critical evaluation of their strengths and weaknesses. This way we may hope to obtain a creative tension rather than a meaningless conflict between the viewpoints. Importantly we aim to understand quantum and relativistic phenomena, in addition to the 'shut up and calculate' approach often emphasized in physics education.
