The internationally esteemed Faculty of Educational Sciences at the University of Helsinki is Finland’s most multidisciplinary unit of research and teaching in educational sciences and teacher education. The aim of the Faculty’s research and teaching is to optimally realise the cultural and social potential of people for the benefit of individuals and humanity.

We provide undergraduate, postgraduate and continuing education that qualifies students for both the teaching profession and other positions requiring general academic expertise. Some 600 students complete an undergraduate degree at the Faculty each year. We also offer the pedagogical studies required to qualify as a teacher to students majoring in other faculties’ disciplines. Approximately 600 students studying to become a subject teacher annually complete these studies at the Faculty to obtain teaching qualifications.

for a two year period. The successful candidates’ research projects will focus on educational sciences.

The duties of the postdoctoral researcher include research, teaching, and other activities at the Faculty. The post will require both independent and collaborative scientific publishing.

An appointee to the position of postdoctoral researcher must hold a doctoral degree in a relevant field, have the ability to conduct independent scientific research, and possess the teaching skills required for the position. The candidate should have a proven capability to publish in scientific journals, have excellent analytical and methodological skills, and be able to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary scientific community. The successful candidates are expected to have excellent skills in written and oral English.

The postdoctoral researchers to be appointed should have obtained their doctoral degree within the last five years.

The salary for the position will be based on level 5 of the demands level chart or teaching and research personnel in the salary system of Finnish universities. In addition, the appointee will be paid a salary component based on personal performance. The salary is EUR 3,300-4,000 per month, depending on the appointee’s qualifications and experience. There is a four-month trial period for the position.

The proposed research project should focus to the focus areas of the research at the faculty. These areas are 1) educational research on teaching and learning and 2) educational research on schooling, society and culture.
