PhD and POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCHERS IN NEUROPHYSIOLOGY

Neuroscience Center in the Helsinki Institute of Life Science (HILIFE) is an independent research organization. Research in Neuroscience Center spans scales from molecular and cellular neuroscience to developmental, cognitive, and systems neuroscience.

The recently established Hartung lab has a strong interest in the developmental origin of neuropsychiatric disorders. The research is carried out in rodent models to investigate how early-life risk factors impact the ongoing maturation of networks underlying emotional behaviors.

The research team led by Henrike Hartung located at the Neuroscience Center, Helsinki Institute of Life Science (HiLIFE), University of Helsinki, Finland is looking for

one PHD STUDENT and one POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCHER IN NEUROPHYSIOLOGY

starting in Feb 2021 or as soon as the best applicants are available.

The researchers will work on the project “Developmental origin of neuropsychiatric disorders: Effect of early-life stress on prefrontal-amygdala circuits” funded by the Academy of Finland. The main objectives of the successful candidates will be to investigate the development of prefrontal-amygdala circuits after early-life stress exposure. The research will be carried out in rodent models using mainly in vitro and in vivo electrophysiological recording techniques. We are looking for highly motivated, determined and innovative researchers to join our team.

The positions offer a great opportunity to perform collaborative research in an international environment. The candidates are offered access to state-of-the-art methodologies and techniques, appropriate supervision and help in career advancement.

Suitable candidates should hold a MSc or PhD in neuroscience or related fields and ideally have thorough training and experience in electrophysiology in rodents as well as time series analysis and good programming skills (Matlab). Prior experience with optogenetics, pharmacogenetics or rodent surgeries are considered an advantage. The postdoctoral candidate should also have an academic track-record in related fields with publications in international scientific journals. Excellent communication skills in English as well as the ability to work independently are mandatory.

Salary will be based on the University salary system for teaching and research personnel, and composed of both task related and personal performance components. The starting salary will be approximately €2100 or 3200 /month for PhD student or postdoc, respectively, depending on the appointee’s qualifications and experience. The positions with a six-month trial period will be initially for 2 years with the option of extension.
