The Tumor Genomics Research Group at the University of Helsinki’s Faculty of Medicine, is one of the largest biomedical research groups in Finland with a 30-member research team, including biologists, computer scientists and medical doctors. The group focuses on understanding the causes and mechanisms of tumorigenesis, particularly in uterine leiomyoma and colorectal cancer. Here, researchers are given the opportunity to work in an internationally acclaimed research environment and good working atmosphere. The group offers the availability of state-of-the-art facilities, equipment, and bioinformatic resources for high-throughput analyses. The work has led to publications in journals such as Science, Nature, and New England Journal of Medicine.

The group is part of the Academy of Finland funded Center of Excellence in Tumor Genetics (CoETG) with a special focus on understanding the interplay between genetic and environmental signals leading to neoplasia.

We are currently seeking an outstanding candidate for

IT SUPPORT OFFICER
for a fixed-term

The open position is in the context of cancer genetics and bioinformatics research. We are looking for enthusiastic support person with a background in information technology.

We expect the successful candidate to be highly self-motivated and responsible with excellent team working, problem solving, and analytical skills. The successful candidate has a bachelor’s degree in engineering or ICT or equivalent skills. Extensive experience with Linux-based systems including command line tools is required. Basic understanding of bioinformatics, Python-programming, relational databases and statistical methods is beneficial.

Responsibilities of the IT support officer
IT support person is expected to be able to conduct the given work ambitiously, effectively and with attention to detail. The work consists of support, including basic data entry and administration, of group’s data management system. Also, active participation in support and development of the analysis programs of genomic and other relevant data is required.

We offer an initial contract of employment for two years. The position is a full-time position preferably starting in early 2018. A trial period of four months will be applied. Salary is based on the University's salary scheme for support personnel, composed of both task specific and personal performance components. The group is situated in Biomedicum, at the Meilahti Campus in Helsinki, Finland.
