Sensory recovery at work – fragrance ergonomics supporting microbreaks and workplace wellbeing (TUOKSU)

This project explores how different spatial experiences, particularly wooden and forest-like biophilic and fragrant elements, can influence wellbeing and recovery in the work environment.

The aim is to investigate how various elements help employees relax and calm down during microbreaks, which may, in turn, reduce the stress and burden experienced throughout the day. The research will be conducted in specially designed recovery spaces where participants are exposed to different spatial variables at varying intensities. The effects of recovery will be assessed using both psychological and physiological measures, such as surveys and physiological responses. Additionally, data collected on individual participant factors will help to understand why different people may react differently to biophilic and fragrant elements. The results of this study are expected to provide new perspectives on workplace design and the promotion of wellbeing.
