I am currently working on my PhD thesis, which deals with the polysemy of the English verb lose from a cognitive linguistic perspective. The tentative title of the thesis is Contextualizing the meanings of lose: Studies in verbal polysemy. In my work I examine the interaction and interdependence of the meanings of lose and the verb’s (linguistic) contexts of use. I am particularly interested in the identification of distinct meaning types through entrenched patterns of use and the mechanisms of meaning extension.
