To decrease risks related to disasters, it is important to understand trade-offs in post-disaster reconstruction. This practitioner oriented article introduces the different dimensions of trade-offs commonly made in disaster risk reduction and development related decision making processes, highlighting equity as a dimension which intersects with many of the other dimensions. The article also explores how to work towards more aligned and equitable decision-making.
