Greetings from Glasgow

Two members of UEP group presented their current research in European Climate Change Adaptation Conference.

On 05th – 9th June 2017 UEP researchers Johannes Klein and Alexandra Jurgilevich attended ECCA 2017 – 3rd European Climate Change Adaptation Conference in Glasgow, UK. The 3-day conference was built upon the achievements of ECCA 2013 in Hamburg and ECCA 2015 in Copenhagen. This year’s focus was on moving from theory to practice and exploring the opportunities of well-designed adaptation actions that can also have wider benefits for the economy, biodiversity, population health and synergies with climate change mitigation efforts.

Johannes gave a presentation on the topic “The roles of private actors in urban climate change adaptation – emerging patterns of public-private cooperation and citizen involvement” within the theme “A better understanding of adaptation governance”. Johannes’s presentation builds on two cases of New York and Helsinki with different political traditions that explored the emergence of private action and public-private interaction in urban climate change adaptation. Alexandra had a poster presentation entitled “Participatory future climate risk mapping using SoftGIS tool for map co-production” within the theme “Participation and co-production”. Alexandra presented her PhD project and the utilization of participatory mapping with SoftGIS as a tool to explore future dynamics of vulnerability and exposure in urban climate risk assessments.
