The 22nd Annual Meeting of The RNA Society 2017
May 28 - June 3, Prague, Czech Republic
The RNA 2017 Meeting was held at the Prague Congress Center, a dominant landmark of the capital with wonderful panoramic views of Prague, and near to the city center.
Peter Sarin attended both the RNA Society Meeting 2017 and one of the satellite meeting (Hallmarks of Cancer: Focus on RNA). The latter brought together RNA and cancer biologists.
Keynote speakers of the RNA Society Meeting include:
Marina Rodnina (Max Planck Inst. Goettingen; Translational regulation)
Robert Singer (Albert Einstein , NY; Imaging of single mRNAs)
Eric Sontheimer (UMass Med School; CRISPR-Cas & RNAi)
Juan Valcarcel (CGR Barcelona; Regulation of alternative pre-mRNA splicing)
Welcome Sebastian Leidel to Viikki!
We were delighted to host the visit of our collaborator here in Viikki campus, Sebastian Leidel from the Max Planck Institute for Molecular Biomedicine, Münster in Germany. He gave an inspiring talk in the Viikki Biocenter Monday Lecture on Monday, April 24th, Viikki Biocenter Auditorium 1041,Biocenter 2, Viikinkaari 5 at 15.15. The tittle of his talk is :
When cells become dyslexic - Connecting RNA and protein quality control
Sebastian Leidel studies the in vivo roles of tRNA modification. Recent work from his laboratory has revealed an unexpected connection between the absence of tRNA modifications and its impact on cellular protein quality. Depending on the experimental system this can reroute signalling and cellular differentiation, thereby explaining phenotypes that are associated with the absence of modifications also in human diseases.
Picture was taken 15 mins prior to the seminar. The auditorium was filled with scientists 15 mins later.
When the two tRNA modification experts meet in Viikki.........................
Congratulations to our mighty PI, Peter Sarin, who managed to secure a grant from the Sigrid Juselius Foundation.
In other words, we expect to have an additional member to our lab soon!
It's time to celebrate.
The Mighty One with the Three Musketeers
The RNAcious laboratory is founded in September 2016 with only three members. Across one year, we became four. A good start for the A-U-G-C nucleotides formation team in the RNAcious laboratory in 2017.
