COURSE: Current topics in ecological change research (EEB-109)

Fall 2018

Coordinator: Marjo Saastamoinen (marjo.saastamoinen (at) helsinki.fi)
Teachers: Laura Antao, Tad Dallas, Maria Hällfors, Malcolm Itter, Elina Kaarlejärvi,
Oystein Opedal, Benjamin Weigel

The course will introduce current topics, research methods, and trends within the field of ecology related to ecosystem change. Students will gain experience reading, interpreting, and synthesizing findings from current scientific literature. Paramount to the course are group discussions focused on critical review of scientific papers and their contribution to our understanding of ecosystems under changing environmental conditions globally.

Requirements for all students: Reading 1-2 papers per week, attending each session, active participation in the discussion with prepared questions

Requirements for PhD students: Host one paper discussion session, write abstract of talk following the hosted paper discussion session

Requirements for Masters students: Learning diary
