Yksilöllistetty lasten kasvainten lääkeherkkyystutkimus (PREPAIR)
Tutkimuksessa selvitetään sekä terveiden solujen että kasvaimen perimäaineksen virheitä ja kasvaimen lääkeherkkyyttä.
Tutkimuksen tavoitteena on tunnistaa erityisesti sellaisia poikkeavuuksia, joita voitaisiin hyödyntää uusia hoitoja kehitettäessä. Lisäksi tutkimuksessa luodaan eri kasvainten mallinnoksia, testataan kasvainkudoksen herkkyyttä eri lääkeaineille, etsitään kasvaimen tunnistamiseen ja seurantaan soveltuvia merkkiaineita ja tutkitaan kasvaimessa ilmeneviä proteiineja.
Tutkimuksen toteuttamisesta vastaavat Helsingin ja Uudenmaan sairaanhoitopiiri ja Helsingin yliopisto (Suomen molekyylilääketieteen instituutti FIMM) yhdessä.
PREPAIR - Functional precision medicine for childhood solid tumors
The study examines both healthy cell and tumor genetic abnormalities and tumor drug sensitivity.
The aim of the study is to identify abnormalities that could be exploited in the development of new treatments. Additionally, the study creates models of various tumors, tests tumor tissue sensitivity to different drugs, searches for markers suitable for tumor identification and monitoring, and investigates proteins present in tumors.
The implementation of the study is carried out by the Helsinki and Uusimaa Hospital District and the University of Helsinki (Finnish Institute for Molecular Medicine FIMM) together.

Syöpäkasvaimen profilointitietoa ja muuta terveystietoja laaja-alaisesti yhdistävä tutkimus uusien täsmälääketieteen ratkaisujen tunnistamiseksi (iCAN-PEDI)
Suomessa diagnosoidaan vuosittain noin 150 uutta lasten syöpätapausta. Vaikka nykyiset hoitomenetelmät ovat parantaneet merkittävästi lapsisyöpäpotilaiden selviytymistä, osalla potilaista ei kuitenkaan ole tarjolla riittävän tehokasta hoitoa tai he kärsivät hoidoista johtuvista pitkäaikaishaittavaikutuksista. iCAN-PEDI-projektin päämääränä on parantaa oikean hoidon valintaa tutkimalla, miten potilaan kasvainsolut reagoivat eri lääkkeisiin ja selvittämällä syöpää aiheuttavat/syövässä esiintyvät molekyylitasoiset muutokset. Tulevaisuudessa projektin tavoitteena on hyödyntää tutkimustuloksia ohjaamalla potilaat heille sopiviin kliinisiin tutkimusprojekteihin perustuen molekyyliseen ja toiminnalliseen profilointiin. Lisäksi projektin pyrkimyksenä on laajentaa tutkimusta pitkäaikaisseurantatutkimukseksi mahdollistaen potilaille terveemmän aikuisuuden.
Life-Long longitudinal study of childhood cancer patients for personalized health (iCAN-PEDI)
Approximately 150 new pediatric cancers are diagnosed in Finland annually. Current treatment strategies have improved the overall survival of pediatric cancer patients, however, there is still a portion of patients without any effective treatment or suffering from adverse effects, impairing their quality-of-life. iCAN-PEDI project aims to improve the selection of right treatment for a right patient. To this aim, we study how a patient’s tumor cells respond to the drugs, and what are the molecular alterations resulting in cancer. We develop new analytical methods to improve diagnosis and treatment of patients with pediatric solid cancers. For next term, our aim is to further utilize our findings by directing the patients to clinical trials based on our molecular and functional profiling, and by establishing novel clinical trials. We also propose to expand our study as a longitudinal follow-up study for childhood cancer survivors, to enable their healthier adulthood.
