Impact of storms on phytoplankton

Climate change is expected to increase frequency and intensity of extreme weather events, such as storms.

Storms are likely to impact lake systems through disturbance and mixing of the water column, which could have important consequences for phytoplankton. Global Evaluation of the Impacts of Storms on freshwater Habitat and Structure of phytoplankton Assemblages (GEISHA) is a synthesis working group on the impact of storms on phytoplankton in lakes led by Orlane Anneville (INRA, FR), Jason Stockwell (University of Vermont, USA) and Vijay Patil (US Geological Survey, Alaska, USA), and jointly supported by the CESAB and the Powell Center. Our lab is proud to contribute to the core activities of the group.
