Next-Generation Translational Osteoarthritis Therapies

We study the mechanisms behind human cartilage degradation and joint inflammation, and how their disruption can lead to arthritic diseases like osteoarthritis. Using genome-engineered cells and advanced tissue engineering, we generate immunomodulatory cartilage structures to create robust in vitro and ex vivo disease models, and ultimately potential novel cell therapies. We also investigate innate immunity signaling in arthritic diseases. By integrating multi-cohort microbiome data, systemic endotoxemia tracking, and host immune profiling, we aim to understand the regulatory logic of the gut-joint axis and how gut-derived microbial products drive chronic joint inflammation
