We have defined a parameter, which we call gaze synchrony, which gives a measure of of gaze overlap. Since gaze dwells pertaining to different individuals are for the most part not synchronous, this measure is statistically derived from the gaze targets in a window of time that runs along the timeline of an episode. With this measure we are able to automatically detect moments during which there is much interaction, as witnessed by a qualitative assessment of the events which are singled out by the parameter, and we are able to discover possible causes that lead to this interaction, such as the belief that a solution to a problem is close at hand.
