The President of Finland visited the Hyytiälä Research Station and got acquainted with climate and forest research

Sauli Niinistö discussed climate change with researchers and students from University of Helsinki.

President Sauli Niinistö visited the in Juupajoki on Thursday 27th of June 2019.  Niinistö met station directors, researchers and students and discussed with them how forests affect climate change. For example, he got acquainted with the measurements of black carbon at the station.

 

The hosts of the visit were Academician Markku Kulmala, Chancellor Kaarle Hämeri, Vice Rector Sari Lindblom and Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture and Forestry Ritva Toivonen.

Hyytiälä is an international measurement station of the Faculty of Agriculture and Forestry, focusing on research of the atmosphere and forests. The station enables forestry field courses and research in field conditions. In addition, the Department of Physics at the University of Helsinki and the Center for Atmospheric Research operate a there. The  SMEAR station registers small particles, greenhouse gases, air chemistry, soil and their interactions.
