New eddy covariance measurements started in Abisko-Stordalen, Sweden

As part of the N-PERM project, new eddy covariance measurements of nitrous oxide (N2O) and carbon monoxide (CO) fluxes have been started in Abisko-Stordalen, in the northern part of Sweden. The measurements began in August 2022 and will continue in the fall of 2023.

Permafrost plays an important role in ongoing global warming. The Arctic has been predicted to warm twice as fast as the rest of the globe. The new N-PERM project aims to increase understanding of N2O emissions in permafrost regions. The project is a collaboration with the University of Eastern Finland and the Abisko Scientific Research Station.

As part of the project, new eddy covariance measurements of N2O and CO fluxes have been started in Abisko-Stordalen, in the northern part of Sweden. The measurements began in August 2022 and will continue in the fall of 2023. Abisko-Stordalen is the ICOS station with ongoing methane (CH4) and carbon dioxide (CO2) flux measurements.
