The third annual meeting of the Finnish-Brazilian project, funded jointly by Academy of Finland and the Brazilian funding agency FAPESP, was held in Rio Claro, Brazil in 3rd-18th September 2016.

From Metapopulation Research Centre the organizers were Otso Ovaskainen and Ulisses Camargo. The main title of the meeting was New sampling methods and statistical tools for biodiversity research: integrating animal movement ecology with population and community ecology and there was intensive data analysis workshops under the three themes:

  1. Joint species distribution modelling,
  2. Species identification from autonomous audio-recordings, and
  3. Modern statistical methods for movement ecology.

During the field-trip to Pantanal, we saw how GPS-collaring of jaguars is done in practice.
