Significant grant for Professor Outi Mäkitie for research on monogenic osteoporosis

Professor Outi Mäkitie has received a 4-year grant of 1.4 million EUR from Jane and Aatos Erkko Foundation for research on monogenic osteoporosis

The project supported by Jane and Aatos Erkko Foundation aims to understand the contribution of various signaling pathways for musculoskeletal health by investigating patients with monogenic osteoporosis. This translational study applies clinical and imaging tools, bone and muscle biopsies, and biomarkers to provide in-depth clinical, tissue-level, cellular and molecular data on skeletal and muscular characteristics in affected patients. The goal is to elucidate disease mechanisms in osteoporosis and interconnections between osteoporosis and sarcopenia.
