Embracing Chiara as a member of our lab family, we encourage her to explore the Finnish way of life and local cuisine. We are confident that her stay will be not only enjoyable but also beneficial for her personal and professional development. Let's show our support as she gets on this exciting new journey with us.
Chiara Ottini
Ciao! I’m Chiara, a visiting student from the University of Pavia, Italy. I am currently in my 5th and final year of the MSc degree in Medicinal Chemistry and Pharmaceutical Technology, and I am here at the University of Helsinki to work on my master’s thesis through the Erasmus Traineeship+ program. Over the course of my six-month stay, my research will focus on the molecular modelling and synthesis of indole derivatives as potential ligands to the C1 domain of protein kinase C (PKC). PKC is a key target for various diseases including cancer, diabetes, stroke, heart failure, and Alzheimer's disease.
During my studies, I became fascinated by medicinal chemistry. I believe that working in this field can truly make a tangible difference in people's lives. I hope one day to be able to make even the slightest difference for someone's health, and here in Helsinki I can start to work towards achieving this goal. Additionally, I am grateful for the international environment of this lab and the university's focus on tackling environmental challenges, which are crucial in our world today.
Although I have only been in Finland for a short time, my passion for cooking has already led me to explore and savour Finnish delicacies. I must say, I have fallen in love with the Runebergin torttu and mämmi already.
