SIHDA2023 Conference

Commemorating SIHDA in Finland

The 76th session of the Société internationale Fernand De Visscher pour l’Histoire des Droits de l’Antiquité was held in at the University of Helsinki 22nd- 26th August. The Organizing committee welcomed researchers to Finland from all over the world to discuss the Materiality and immateriality of ancient Law.

In the evenings participants had the chance to experience Helsinki and Finnish culture for example by taking part in a Sauna excursion. They could also meet the city mayor once they arrived at the reception of the City of Helsinki. The arts were presented to the audience in many musical ways: Harmonious Lain huuto, the choir entirely made of lawyers impressed the visitors while they were enjoying dinner at Katajanokan Kasino restaurant.

Friday night was filled with elegance and a brilliant menu as participants got to have their gala dinner in the old student house. At the gala dinner Keto Quarted played string instruments: their voices helped to recreate cinematic master pieces.

When Saturday morning came, a ferry led the people of SIHDA2023 to Tallinn, Estonia. In Tallinn, they had a tour exploring historical Vanalinn, the oldest part of the city of Tallinn.

The organizing committee would like to thank you all for participating in our conference.
