Negative Emotions Research Group kick-off workshop

IRRITATION research group has joined Negative Emotions Research Group and is co-organising a workshop on October 10-11, 2024 at the University of Helsinki.

IRRITATION research group has joined a newly established network that aims to create connections with the broader University of Helsinki emotion researchers community. As a kick-off activity, the Negative Emotions Research Group will hold a workshop on 10-11 October 2024.

The event will bring together over a dozen researchers from a variety of disciplines to develop interdisciplinary approaches to the study our understanding of various stigmatized emotions. The workshop will address, for example, the following questions:

  • What role do emotions play in social interaction and cooperation?
  • How are “negative” emotions such as shame, disgust, and anger learned, and what function do they play–and ought they play–in communal life and morality?
  • Which emotions related with social interaction have not been given the consideration they deserve in emotions research? How might a closer look at, for instance, anxiety, irritation, and the feeling of having been humbled enrich our understanding of social and moral interaction?

The two-day workshop will take place at the Univeristy of Helsinki's Main building and consist of short presentations, discussion and networking. Please check the Negative Emotions Research Group's website for more detailed information about the programme, speakers and venue.
