Pegmatites

Understanding the formation and chemical evolution of lithium mineralization and LCT-pegmatites

The demand for Li shows no signs of unwinding, as battery-powered electronic vehicles will be the primary tool to reduce carbon emissions and reach governmental carbon neutrality targets. LCT-type pegmatites are one of the primary sources of Li, and Finland hosts some of the most critical Li resources in Europe. However, the magmatic-hydrothermal processes responsible for Li pegmatites' formation and Li mineralization are not yet fully understood. This research project uses mineral geochemistry to investigate the petrogenesis of LCT-type pegmatites and Li mineralization in Li-critical regions in Finland. We aim to develop new mineral chemical proxies of petrological processes and a vectoring tool to serve the exploration of Li mineralization.
