PhD, University Lecturer, Microbiologist, Title of Docent in Food and Environmental Virology
Our research group is working in EE building, Viikki Campus, at University of Helsinki.
I made my Pro Graduate- and PhD theses on topics of virology at the Department of Virology in Meilahti Campus.

I am a Doctoral Researcher finishing my doctoral studies. My background is in veterinary medicine (Licentiate of Veterinary Medicine, to be Doctor of Veterinary Medicine). I mainly study hepatitis E virus (HEV) in Finnish food chain which is the subject of my doctoral thesis. I also research murine norovirus (MNV) as part of my studies, and I participate in teaching the 6th year students of veterinary medicine. My laboratory skills include cell culture and virus propagation (TCID50 assay), real-time quantitative PCR (RT-qPCR), enzyme-linked immunoassay (ELISA), and immunofluorescence.
I am a 4th year PhD student working under Leena’s supervision. My thesis comprises three articles on food- and waterborne viruses, with a focus on human norovirus, hepatitis E virus (HEV), and SARS-CoV-2. The goal is to generate knowledge that will contribute to the development of strategies for reducing the risks posed by these viruses. The findings will support recommendations for enhancing food and water safety practices. My lab work involves molecular techniques, virus propagation in cell culture, and Sanger sequencing.
I am a 2nd year PhD researcher at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine. I study the survival of Porcine Sapovirus, Simian Rotavirus, Murine Norovirus, and Hepatitis E Virus in various food and water matrices. Experimental skills include: TCID50 assay, Immunofluorescence, Plaque assay, Realtime PCR.
