Social media has become important part of political communication. PLEDGE team from Helsinki led a collaboration in ten countries to study election campaigning in Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube. Based on four weeks of data from short video watching, we publish first drafts of country reports from Bulgaria, Croatia, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Poland, Portugal, Spain and Sweden. The analysis was done together with a network of other projects, the CO3 on Social Contract, Mores on emotional politics, and the Trans-Atlantic Partnership project ENDURE. Developing further our previous work on Twitter in 2019 (Herkman and Palonen 2024). This research will contribute to a cross-European comparison and a more nuanced understanding of contemporary political communication, political parties, candidates and influencers, styles and trends in politics, ideological and affective contents, populist strategies and emotional mechanisms. It also provides the thematic knowledge on the social contract bases in post-pandemice Europe. We introduce the studies and enable world-café format discussions with scholars who took part in the data gathering and analysis in the European elections campaign period across Europe.
