Sustainability in Early Childhood (SEC)

Sustainability in Early Childhood (SEC)

The SEC research project aims at understanding how sustainability has been and currently is envisioned and implemented in Finnish early childhood education and care (ECEC). Firstly, the project builds on critical studies of policy documents, including especially national curricula. Secondly, the project is interested in the early childhood pre-service teachers’ preunderstanding of the concept sustainable development. Thirdly, the project explores how early childhood pre-service and in-service teacher training, as well as child care and preschool settings, answer the policy quest for sustainability. Finally, the project includes a transdisciplinary sub project called Sustainable Stories in Early Childhood Education (SSECE). This sub project has a special interest in multimodal storytelling as a tool in sustainability education in ECEC.
