Who should apply? This call is directed to researchers, artists, practitioners, activists, and governance actors interested in developing new understandings of transformative change for sustainability.
What is this workshop about? Participants will work together through a series of online workshops, an in-person workshop in Helsinki, and the collaborative development of an edited volume.
We welcome contributions that: revisit the concept of transformative change itself; introduce concepts about transformative change that help us better understand and interpret it; introduce concepts for transformative change that help orient action and navigate change processes.
Why this workshop? Transformative change has become central to sustainability research. Yet many of us increasingly experience a sense of conceptual disorientation. Existing concepts often struggle to capture the complexity, contradictions, and uncertainties of the transformations unfolding around us. This workshop series creates a space to collectively renew the concepts and vocabularies through which we understand and engage transformative change. Together, we will ask questions such as: What do we really mean by transformative change? Which dimensions of change do current concepts fail to grasp? Which perspectives deserve greater attention? Which concepts and vocabularies might help us rethink, reinterpret, and navigate transformative change?
