We study change processes in nature and society and their causal mechanisms. We develop computational methods and analytical tools for studying long-term change, including macroevolutionary dynamics, ecological transformations, and societal change. Underpinning all of this, we work on formalizing AI for science, addressing robustness, bias, and responsibility when learned models are used in high-stakes contexts.
