We are a research group at the Department of Computer science, University of Helsinki focusing on data science for understanding evolutionary processes in nature and society and their causal mechanisms. Our current research focuses on methods, tools and perspectives for interpreting the global fossil record, reconstructing past environments, vegetation and climate change. We are also interested how societal and economic processes compare to evolution in nature. In machine learning we study how to handle concept drift, and how to reason with evolving data, and how to make robust, transparent and interpretable models.
