Research projects of the Cognitive and brain aging group.

Early prediction of cognitive impairment, dementia and Alzheimer’s Disease

We aim to develop models for early identification of individuals at high risk for cognitive impairment and dementia and to predict conversion from mild cognitive impairment to Alzheimer’s Disease.

Causality and genetic and environmental underpinnings of the protective/risk factors and old age cognition associations

The pathways from protective and risk factors to old age cognition are not well known. Twin design allows to investigate genetic and environmental effects between risk factors and old age cognition. Co-twin analyses of twins discordant for genetic or middle age life style factors can inform more about causality of these associations.

Cognitive aging in the oldest-old

We will study cognitive aging in the oldest-old twins who have participated in the older Finnish Twin Cohort.
