Marjaana Mäkinen, postdoctoral researcher at the CLIPI group, attended the 13th Epigenomics of Common Diseases conference in Hinxton, Cambridgeshire, UK on March 12-14, 2025. Dr. Mäkinen presented a short pitch talk and a poster on maternal exposure to endocrine disrupting chemicals in early pregnancy, and how it associates with altered cord blood DNA methylation. This trip was funded by travel grands from the University of Helsinki Medicum and the Signe and Ane Gyllenberg foundation.
The EDC conference brought together 250 experts in the field to this hybrid event. The conference highlighted how technological advances in epigenomics are being applied to various diseases, and how research is being translated into novel treatments. Discussions focused on epigenetic mechanisms in complex disease, the role of epigenetics in disease inheritance, and epigenetic epidemiology, including the role of the environment in epigenomics.
