Eligible candidates are PhD students or those who have completed a PhD within the last three years. The paper has to have been presented at a ReNEW event after the Third Nordic Challenges conference, i.e. 9 March 2019 or later, including virtual events and papers accepted for the 2022 conference. The winner(s) will be announced in connection with the 5th Nordic Challenges Conference dinner, each of them being awarded 17,500 SEK prize money and an invaluable honour.

The 2019 winners of the prize were Carolin Schütze then Lund University and Byron Rom-Jensen then Aarhus University.
