From Helsinki to Berlin: Europe and the End of the Cold War

International conference, 11-12 November 2019, University of Lissabon

The conference will gather national and international scholars to debate the end of the Cold War and the fall of the Berlin Wall from diverse theoretical and geographical perspectives. The aim is to question traditional Cold War narratives that tend to place the United States and the Soviet Union at the center of the action, debate the role of European actors and the global impacts of the end of the conflict.

This conference is part of the project “NOWALL: From Helsinki to Berlin: Europe and the Fall of the Berlin Wall”, coordinated by CEI-IUL researcher Luís Nuno Rodrigues and co-financed by the European Commission’s Europe for Citizens Programme. The project is a partnership between CEI-IUL (coordinator), European Association of Young Educators (Portugal), JEF-Finland (Finland), Young Educators Duitsland (Germany) Stichting CAAT Projects (The Netherlands), University of Helsinki (Finland) and The Willy Brandt Foundation (Germany).

The conference will take place in CEI-IUL (Centre for International Studies). CEI-IUL is a university-based multidisciplinary research center at ISCTE - Instituto Universitário de Lisboa (ISCTE-IUL).
