George Sarton Medal for History of Science

The George Sarton Medal for History of Science was awarded to Prof. Dr. Pauli Kettunen (University of Helsinki) for his work on the history of modern welfare state regimes.

George Sarton, an alumnus of Ghent University, is one of the founding fathers of the field of history of science. The medal named after him is awarded to scholars who have made outstanding contributions to the socio-historical understanding of scientific work.
