Biostatistics

Biostatistics is at the heart of all life sciences ranging from human health to genetic engineering of microbes for environmental clean technology. Statistical reasoning and handling of uncertainty are essential for all these sciences to ensure that appropriate conclusions and decisions can be reached from experiments and observations. Biostatistics is also among the strategic focus areas of University of Helsinki and the research areas in the biostatistics groups are at the core of the strategic goal of University of Helsinki to become a world leading Life Sciences University. (See, e.g., the newly established Helsinki Institute of Life Sciences).

Research

Our research concentrates on state-of-the-art methods for computational modeling, probabilistic machine learning and inference. Genome-wide association studies, ecosystem models, evolution, infectious diseases and bioinformatics represent our main breakthrough areas. More detailed information about our research, publications and researchers can be found from the principal investigators' pages.
