How were free ports portrayed?

A specific field of research concerns the understanding of how free ports became agents and places for storytellings and peculiar communicative strategies.

These strategies were largely based on 'short forms' - series of discursive models which will have a great impact also on contemporary society - such as short sentences, fake news, slogans, linguistic experiments, quick and effective media.

The analysis of said phenomena, coordinated at the Università Ca' Foscari Venezia, will enlighten the deep connections between commercial practices and circulation of political ideas, between economic thought and philosophical reflection. It will also be underlined the link between commerce and freedom (economic, political, of expression) which remains a crucial element in the contemporary debate.
