The University of Helsinki Data Support now also provides assistance to research infrastructures! We can help you with tasks such as planning and updating data management policies, as well as assigning DOI identifiers to data produced by your research infrastructure.

Data management policy for research infrastructures

Research infrastructures must have a data management policy (DMPol). A data management policy

improves the documentation and usability of research data
promotes the implementation of open science
ensures that data protection and contractual matters are in order
meets the requirements of funding agencies.

Persistent identifiers (DataCite DOI)

A DOI (Digital Object Identifier) is a unique and persistent identifier for a digital object or document. Research infrastructures can obtain DOI identifiers for the data they produce free of charge through Helsinki University Library.

Why obtain DOIs?

The use of DOI identifiers enables more accurate tracking of data usage and more effective use of other metrics tools. These identifiers also make it possible to cite research data and facilitate its reuse.

How does our research infrastructure get a DOI?

Other specialist services for research infrastructures

Research infrastructures at the University of Helsinki are also welcome to use other specialist services we offer. For example, we can help determine how data generated by the infrastructure can be routed directly to a preservation service suited to its purpose. We also assist, if needed, with planning data documentation and metadata storing. We offer tailored training for various needs, such as using Data catalogue or documenting data.
