First of all you need to find a supervisor for your PhD project. Unfortunately the LUOVA coordinator cannot help you to find a supervisor but you must contact suitable researchers yourself. To get started, please see the list of our supervisors. The supervisor can also be someone who is currently not on the list. Information on all researchers at the University of Helsinki is available here.
Once you have found a supervisor and agreed on a PhD project with him/her the next step is to apply for a PhD study right at LUOVA.
Selection criteria in Luova
Please familiarize yourself also with the Code of Conduct of the YEB doctoral school. The code of conduct describes the minimum requirements set for all doctoral candidates and supervisors in YEB, hence for all students and supervisors in LUOVA. The aim is to establish good practices that enable completion of the doctoral degree within four years of full-time study.
The structure of PhD degrees changes on August 1st, 2017
All new doctoral candidates receiving their PhD study right on August 1st, 2017 or later will complete their degree according to the new requirements set by LUOVA. For doctoral candidates already holding a PhD study right the transition period will be three years and end on July 31st, 2020. The transition into the new degree requirements will be organised as flexibly as possible so as not to unnecessarily hamper or delay studies. During the transition period, doctoral candidates may complete their degrees in accordance with the old degree requirements, but they may also transfer to the new degree requirements. After having transferred to the new degree requirements, docotral candidates may not return to the old degree structure to complete their studies.
