First of all you need to find a supervisor for your PhD project. Unfortunately the LUOVA coordinator cannot help you to find a supervisor but you must contact suitable researchers yourself. To get started, please see the list of our supervisors. The supervisor can also be someone who is currently not on the list. Information on all researchers at the University of Helsinki is available here.
Once you have found a supervisor and agreed on a PhD project with him/her the next step is to apply for a PhD study right at an appropriate faculty. Usually the faculty is the supervisor's faculty. After you and your supervisor have decided on the faculty go to the faculty website to see which documents you need for the PhD study right application:
Faculty of Biological and Environmental Sciences
Faculty of Agriculture and Forestry
Faculty of Science
Please submit your application documents to the respective faculty office as instructed on the faculty homepage. The faculty will deliver your application documents to LUOVA for review.
Please familiarize yourself also with the Code of Conduct of the YEB doctoral school. The code of conduct describes the minimum requirements set for all doctoral candidates and supervisors in YEB, hence for all students and supervisors in LUOVA. The aim is to establish good practices that enable completion of the doctoral degree within four years of full-time study.
