Grants to attend scientific diving courses in 2027

The Onni Talas Foundation is kindly offering scholarships for students. These scholarships are intended for students enrolled at any Finnish University to gain entry level dive training with the intention of applying it in scientific diving.

Foundations of Scientific Diving Scholarships

Students enrolled at any Finnish University may apply to gain entry level dive training with the intention of applying it in scientific diving. These scholarship cover 80% of the fees for the Foundations of Scientific Diving program. Your personal contribution to the program will be 300€. In addition, you will need to cover your travel and bring your own drysuit, undergarments, dry gloves and mask to the program. More information about the requirements of gear can be found (PDF).

Applications for 2027 are open NOW until 06. Dec 2026

The recipients of these will be chosen based on an application containing:

  • a motivational letter
  • academic CV
  • letter of reference from course coordinator, supervisor or member of teaching faculty to support your application
  • If you have, dive certificates

Occupational Scientific Diver Scholarship

Twelve scholarships (5000€) are available for students enrolled or enrolling at a Finnish University at any level looking to complete the Occupational Scientific Diver. The scholarship covers the course fees and a contribution towards living expenses during the course. Information about the requirements of gear can be found .

Applications for 2027 are open NOW until 13. Jan 2027

The recipients of the grants will be chosen based on a free-form application, including:

  • a motivational letter
  • academic CV
  • evidence of enrollment
  • diving qualifications and experience to meet perquisites (or statement of intention of getting training)
  • letter of reference from course coordinator, supervisor or member of teaching faculty to support your application

Applicants may apply for both scholarships stating intention to join the Occupational Scientific Program following their Foundations training. Please submit two separate applications in that case.
