TOTEMK Futures Workshop report: Pioneering Education for Tomorrow

On May 7th, 2024, Strathmore University in Nairobi played host to the TOTEMK project's Closing Seminar, which included a "Futures Orientation to Education" workshop. This workshop focused on exploring the future of education in Kenya's Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) by promoting competency-based education (CBE).

Building upon the insights from a similar Futures Workshop conducted by the Finland Futures Research Centre at the University of Nairobi in October 2023, this event served as a collaborative platform to explore and expand on the results. Participants engaged in in-depth discussions on how to integrate futures research into education, examining topics such as the evolving roles of technology, the changing nature of future learners, and the expanding responsibilities of teachers. The workshop underscored the importance of foresight in curriculum development, emphasizing the need for innovative, flexible, and ethically grounded educational practices to prepare students for an unpredictable future.
