Launching the MOOCs

TOTEMK project launches five new MOOCs for teacher training in Kenya.

TOTEMK project launched five Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) 28th November – 1st December 2023 at the University of Strathmore, Nairobi. With launching event we created awareness of the online courses and helped teachers to find the Moodle platform.

The topics of the MOOCs are: Pedagogical approaches to Competence-based curriculum, 21st century skills in learning and teaching, Technology-enhanced learning and teaching, Socio-cultural issues to empower teachers, and Pedagogical leadership.

The courses have been designed as part of the international TOTEMK project funded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of  Finland. The project comprises the project partners from the University of Helsinki and Laurea University of Applied Sciences, Finland, together with University of Nairobi, Pwani University and Strathmore University.

Teacher trainers from 20 other Kenyan universities participated in the training modules, which form the basis for the online courses that were launched. The objective of the MOOCs is to provide Kenyan teachers and teacher trainees wide access to the training content designed by Kenyan and Finnish experts of the TOTEMK project. MOOCs will ensure the continuity of the TOTEMK project achievements also in the future.
